To me, itĭoesn't improve my grip on the camera by much but makes it muchīulkier. I know a couple of people who swear by the battery grip. It may be a bit heavy to pack around all day, but it is soooo versatile, and it will last forever. The A2 really is quite complete already, with an extra battery or 2.Ī good tripod is very highly advisable.

Telephoto attachments are only needed if you plan on shooting wildlife, IMO. Lately, I've had a terrible problem with having more funding than I need for the accessories I want.

My problem with the battery grip is that it gets well-nigh impossible to find a bag that it fits in! I just moved my A2 from the Lowe Pro EX 140 to the Edit 120, because even that was too big. There is little difference in write times with almost any CF card, so I would look for the plain-label Sandisk 1 Gb, which have gotten plain cheap. Truth is that the A2 is pretty complete in and of itself, you don't really need a heck of a lot of accessories. A good shoulder bag to carry the camera in would be worthwhile, too.

I always carry an ND and a polarizing filter, just in case (although I use them relatively rarely).

Considering accessories that I'd want for travel, my predilections would be to go for at least one more spare battery, a second charger that could be using in an automobile, a quality, lightweight tripod (and the remote release), more memory cards, and maybe the wide converter rather than the tele converter for close quarters. I find it rare to need additional battery power or a lens longer than 200mm. I wish they'd have supplied a supporting mount to make it possible to use on a tripod as a lens that long will require a relatively high shutter speed even with image stabilization to get the best results. My concern is that it is a largish, heavy lens to hang on the small filter ring: you have to be careful with it or risk damaging the camera lens. From the reports of users, it seems to be a good performer. The ACT-100 nets you a nice boost to a 300mm equivalent focal length. But I'd rather go for having two more NP400 spares and an aftermarket wrist strap, maybe a spare charger which could also charge the batteries from an automobile's cigarette lighter. As a travel accessory, I think the primary benefit would be the ability to use AA batteries in a pinch if all your standard NP400s happened to be out of juice. To me, it doesn't improve my grip on the camera by much but makes it much bulkier. Get is the zoom power that significant to warrant $120? Secondly, I was thinking of grabbing the telephoto converterĪct-100 so I can get some closer-up shots. Lithium-ion batteries or 6 AA batteries - so this pack doesn'tĪctually come with any batteries then, right? I would need to buyĪnother lithium-ion battery to supplement the one I already have. The first was the BP-400 battery pack, now if I understand thisīattery pack correctly, it is more of a holder for either 2 Thinking of getting a few accessories for this camera. However, in a few months I will be taking an extended trip and was This camera was definitely a shift from my previous point-and-shoot

It took awhile to learnĪll the features, the manual has a lot of useful content though. I purchased the Konica Minolta DiMAGE A2 back in June of '04 and The only other compelling feature is that it supposedly provides a better grip, and that's definately not worth the asking price seeing i have no problems with the grip that is already part of the camera. besides, i don't need to spend that much on a glorified battery holder when it only takes a couple of seconds to swap batteries manually if i need to. It doesn't make the camera work any faster or better. To me, the BP-400 is not worth the asking price ($90US) when you consider what it is.
